Tech Affinity CIC – Safeguarding Policy (Adults)Policy Statement
Tech Affinity CIC is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all adults attending our Tech & Tea sessions. We recognise our responsibility to create a welcoming and safe space, respond appropriately to concerns, and help prevent harm, neglect, or abuse.
Scope
This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and associates involved in delivering or supporting Tech Affinity CIC activities. Although not a regulated care provider, our work often supports individuals who may be vulnerable due to age, health, digital exclusion, or isolation.
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Name: Richard H
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 07449953029
The DSL is responsible for safeguarding coordination, record-keeping, and responding to concerns. In the event that the DSL is unavailable, a alternative DSL will be provided.
Recognising Abuse or Harm
Staff and volunteers should be aware of the signs of:
Neglect or Self-Neglect: Failure to provide for personal care needs or neglecting health needs.
Emotional or Psychological Abuse: Verbal threats, intimidation, humiliation, or other forms of emotional manipulation.
Financial Exploitation or Scams: Pressuring or deceiving an individual for financial gain.
Discriminatory Behaviour: Treating someone unfairly due to their race, gender, disability, age, or other personal characteristics.
Online Coercion or Manipulation: Threats, blackmail, or undue influence made via digital channels.
We do not diagnose or investigate but commit to acting on all concerns appropriately.
Reporting a Concern
If a concern arises: Report immediately to the DSL. In urgent risk cases, call 999.
Document the concern confidentially using an incident report form. This report should include details of the concern, the actions taken, and any immediate steps required.
We will seek advice from local adult safeguarding teams or other relevant agencies if necessary.
Training and Checks
To ensure safe delivery of our services: All staff and volunteers must complete basic adult safeguarding training. Richard H has completed the Home Office 'Learn Something New' Adult Safeguarding Course (certified).
A valid DBS check (basic or enhanced) is required for anyone interacting directly with participants.
All staff must undergo annual safeguarding refresher training and have regular updates on safeguarding practices.
Code of Conduct
All those representing Tech Affinity CIC must: Treat all participants with respect and patience. Maintain healthy boundaries – no personal contact details should be shared.
Offer tech support only — not personal care, or medical guidance.
Never work alone in a private space with a participant.
Be sensitive to the cultural, physical, and emotional needs of participants.
Data Protection & Confidentiality
While we respect privacy, safeguarding overrides confidentiality. Concerns will be shared only with appropriate individuals or agencies in line with legal duties. All personal data will be handled securely in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Cultural Competency
Tech Affinity CIC recognises that participants come from diverse backgrounds. Staff and volunteers are expected to be culturally competent, respecting all individuals’ backgrounds and ensuring that safeguarding practices are adapted to meet the needs of different groups.
Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually or whenever legal/safeguarding practice guidance changes. It will be reviewed in consultation with local safeguarding experts or relevant agencies to ensure it reflects the most current practices and legal requirements.
